A piano is not furniture. An upright weighs 200–350 kg and a concert grand can exceed 500 kg, with the mass concentrated in a cast-iron frame and the weight distributed in a way that punishes anyone who improvises. Pianos are damaged far more often in transit than in use.
We move pianos with the equipment the job actually requires — piano skids and boards, stair-climbing gear, proper strapping, padded protection and, where the access demands it, a crane. Concert grands are stripped of legs and lyre, boarded and cased before they move.
We have moved instruments up narrow Nicosia stairwells, onto rooftop terraces, across beaches for seaside weddings, and a Steinway Model D for the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. If you think your access is impossible, describe it — it usually isn’t.

Does a piano need tuning after it is moved?
Yes, but not immediately. Moving itself rarely knocks a piano out of tune — what does it is the new room, with its different temperature and humidity. Give the instrument two to four weeks to settle into its new environment, then tune it. Tuning the day after a move usually means paying for the same job twice.
Can I move a piano myself with a few friends?
Please do not. An upright weighs 200–350 kg and a grand can exceed 500 kg, with the mass concentrated high and towards the back — which is why uprights topple forwards onto people. Beyond the injury risk, the damage done to legs, casters, pedals and the frame in an improvised move routinely costs more than the move would have. Proper equipment exists for a reason.
